Decades of Making a Difference

Our auxiliary unit has sponsored two local girls for programs offered by the ALA.

Emme McGovern, who's father Frank, is a member of our post, has written an essay as part of the 2019 national Americanism essay contest. Her essay is titled " How can we address and prevent veteran homelessness in our communities? Emme is in the 4th grade at St Bernadette's, and has been selected as one of the County level winners for her grade level. She will receive an award at the Americanism Awards Program luncheon in June.

Marissa Gillespie is a Junior at Haverford High School, she will be going to Shippensburg University for 2 weeks in June to participate in the Keystone Girls State program. The purpose of the program is to provide a nonpartisan participatory curriculum that teaches high school females responsible citizenship. The girls will participate in debates and even author a bill and present it for consideration to our State Representatives while on a trip to Harrisburg.

We are proud to be able to sponsor these young citizens and to help further advance girls interest and participation in our veterans, our government and our country.
